Qualification Heats:

  • The qualification consists of four heats with 15 athletes each, all starting simultaneously.
  • Each heat includes three 1.8 km loops around the Olympic Lake on roller skis.
  • There are two shooting bouts per heat: first prone, then standing at a distance of 50 m with small-bore rifles.
  • No spare rounds are available, every missed shot means a penalty loop of about 60 m.
  • A maximum of two athletes per team may compete in the same heat.
  • The top three finishers in each heat qualify for the final, along with the three fastest athletes overall as “lucky losers.”

Final:

  • A total of 15 athletes compete in the final (based on the results from the heats).
  • The final consists of five 1.8 km loops.
  • Four shooting bouts: prone, prone, standing, standing – again with no spare rounds.
  • For every missed shot, a 60 m penalty loop must be completed.
